Billy Elliot the superb musical brings a night full of theatrical masterpiece work that is enjoyed by everyone and specially families. The play is about a young lad who compromised his future by leaving the boxing career and chose the ballet dancing instead. It was the time when Irish miners were observing a yearlong strike in mid 1980’s. This wonderful play has clinched many awards in England and United States which includes the Oliver and the Tony for the best new musical. It has received a numerous of Helpmann awards, Green Room awards and Drama Desk awards, which all marks its outstanding technical mastery and the superb performance of the cast.  Sir Elton John has written the enchanting music and gave a new life to this musical. Lyrics are by Lee Hall and he wrote the book too. The beautiful choreography by Peter Darling has taken the play to new peaks that not only touches the hearts of the fans but also glorifies as the character sing along.

The direction of Stephen Daldry had given more attraction to this play.  Billy Elliot is a musical based on a box hit film Billy Elliot which was released in the year 2000.

The story took its start back in 1984-85 miner strike in North East England complaining demanding high wages. That was the era of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. But Billy has a great dream to become a ballet dancer right from his early childhood and he successfully stick to this passion without family’s approval which was struggling hard to get their livelihood. They were the residents of Durham County in a Coal-Mining Town. The living conditions were way hard there. Due to the then Prime Minister’s orthodox policies the economic conditions were so pale and the police was oppressing the ordinary masses, due to strikes.  Billy knows the ballet class as it shares the space with village boxing hall where he was sent to learn boxing. He was instantly inspired by the dance and decided to learn it without knowing the repercussions. 

So he secretly started learning ballet, when his father knew that he rebuked him harshly because in his opinion ballet dancing is form women only and its shame for men.  But somehow Mrs. Wilkinson taught Billy the art of ballet dance. The teacher convinced him to try an audition at the Royal Ballet Company and for this she even taught him gratis.  Only she knew the reality that Ballet is like a life to Billy even though he was unaware of this fact by himself.  He missed his first try due to his brother skirmish with police at this point Billy’s father gave up realizing his son’s hidden talent and finally let him adopt the way he wants.  In the end Billy happily makes an entry to the London Academy and starts a new career.  The story tells the undeterred resolve of the young boy against all odds and how he persistently pursues his dream tackling all out disapproval, family arrogance and stiff resistance.
